A Trollied Spy at a Pleasant Cafe

Trollied

The supermarket-based comedy which centres on the everyday lives of its staff is directed by Paul Walker (Shameless, Casualty) and has been written by a team of writers lead by Julie Rutterford (Shameless and Life on Mars).

TROLLIED boasts a stellar cast list including Bafta and Golden Globe® nominee Jane Horrocks (The Road to Coronation Street, Absolutely Fabulous), Mark Addy (The Full Monty, Game of Thrones), Jason Watkins (Being Human, Lark Rise to Candleford) and Rita May (Coronation Street, Drop Dead Gorgeous). They are joined by Joel Fry (White Van Man), Nick Blood (Material Girl, Combat Kids), Chanel Cresswell (This is England) and Lorraine Cheshire (Life on Mars, Early Doors, Waterloo Road).

TROLLIED is set in “Valco” supermarket, a fictional budget supermarket in the North West. The show takes a comic look at a setting we’ve all spent too much of our lives in, be it buying pasta, arguing with our loved ones or just trying to explain why we don’t want yet another a loyalty card. TROLLIED is a slice of life populated by the characters we all see every time we go shopping, the bored kids on the checkouts, the ineffectual managers and the irate customers.

The Cafe

The Café is set in and around a café in Weston-Super-Mare run by generational trilogy Mary (June Watson), Carol (Ellie Haddington) and Sarah (Michelle Terry). Acting as the social hub of the seafront town, the café sees all walks of life pass through and gives Sky1 HD viewers an honest portrayal of life in a typical British seaside resort.

Sarah is in her late twenties and has recently returned home from London as she attempts to pursue a writing career. Many of her old school adversaries still live in the area and are frequent visitors to the café. Richard (Ralf Little), Sarah’s former childhood sweetheart is a care home assistant by day and a musician by night whose feathers are ruffled when fellow class-mate and former love rival, John (Daniel Ings), now a successful events manager in London, returns to Weston to visit his elderly mother. Chloe (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) is Sarah’s oldest friend who works in the local hairdresser and always looks on the bright side of life. Her father, Stan (David Troughton) is a frequent visitor to the café due in the most part to his fondness for Carol. Carol, however, has more pressing matters on her mind as Brenda Keily (Seeta Indrani), a local successful entrepreneur threatens to take her family business away.

Also resident in Weston-Super-Mare are Ava (Carolin Stoltz), the polish receptionist at the hairdresser and The Dobsons, regular customers at the cafe played by Brian Murphy and Marcia Warren. Other regulars who drop by include ‘Big Issue Frank’ (Jack Roth) and Weston-Super-Mare’s very own living statue, Keiran (Kevin Trainor).

Mount Pleasant

Tiger Aspect recently started production on Mount Pleasant, a new Sky1 HD eight-part comedy-drama, which will follow the life of Mancunian Lisa and the day-to-day adventures she has with her husband, friends and family.

Written by Sarah Hooper (Shameless), it boasts a veritable who's-who of British stars including Sally Lindsay (Coronation Street, Phoenix Nights) who takes the lead role of Lisa, Daniel Ryan (Skins, Just William) as her husband Dan, and a supporting cast that includes comedy veteran Bobby Ball, Pauline Collins (Upstairs Downstairs, Shirley Valentine), Angela Griffin (Waterloo Road, Hustle), Lisa Tarbuck (Linda Green, Extras), Paula Wilcox (Man About The House, A Touch of Frost), Sian Reeves (Cutting It, Emmerdale), Adrian Bower (Teachers), Neil Fitzmaurice (Peepshow), and Owen McDonnell (Single Handed). Phew!

Lisa is a real woman in a real marriage living in a real part of Manchester. She has no idea that another woman, Kate (Tarbuck), is making a play for her husband Dan (Ryan).  On a daily basis Lisa has to fend off her temptress neighbour Bianca (Reeves), at the same time as toying with her own emotions when sexy singleton Jack (McDonnell) arrives in town. Lisa navigates the highs and lows with her best friends – and workmates - Shelley (Griffin) and Denise (newcomer, Ainsley Howard).  She also remains a loving daughter to her ever-present parents Sue (Collins) and Barry (Ball).
